Dr. Maria is a dedicated and highly skilled veterinarian with over 15 years of experience in veterinary medicine. She graduated from Buenos Aires University in Argentina, in 2008. Her passion for animals was evident even before completing her degree, as she began her working career in 2000, as an Assistant Professor in the Parasitology Department of Buenos Aires University, and assisting in her family veterinary clinic. During her tenure, she contributed to significant research projects, including the continuous monitoring of the mosquito Aedes Aegypti in Buenos Aires province and studying the infection of trichinella spiralis and leishmaniasis in wild animals and zoonosis in endemic regions of Argentina.
Upon graduation, Dr. Maria spent two years working at her family’s veterinary clinic, where she refined her skills in diagnosing and treating a wide range of animal health issues. Seeking further professional growth and new challenges, she migrated to New Zealand to work on dairy farms, managing herds of thousands milking cows. She was responsible for their welfare, treatments, assistance during calving, and calf-rearing.
Dr. Maria’s dedication and expertise led her to pass the Australasian Veterinary Examination at the University of Queensland, earning her license to practice veterinary medicine in both, Australia and New Zealand. She then embarked on her journey as a mixed animal veterinarian in Oceania, where she resided for many years. Her work in New Zealand involved providing care for small animals and consulting for dairy and beef farms, as well as sheep and deer operations.
Dr. Maria’ s commitment to animal welfare and a spirit for adventure, inspired her to dedicate a significant portion of her time, to work and volunteer across Southeast Asia. She has treated neglected elephants at the Elephant Conservation Center in Sayabouli, Laos and provided veterinary care at a busy clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In Phuket, Thailand, she worked with the largest rescue organization, treating and vaccinating stray dogs and cats, and performing health checks for international adoptions. Dr. Maria also spent three months in Kerala, India, volunteering for a stray dog sterilization program, and dedicated a month in Yangon, Burma, assisting a large shelter with over 400 rescued dogs.
Returning to New Zealand, Dr. Maria continued to expand her expertise by completing advanced courses in soft tissue surgery, emergency care, and internal medicine.
In October 2024, Dr. Maria relocated to Singapore. Now, as a team member of the Animal Wellness Referral Center, she brings her wealth of experience, compassion and dedication to every case.
In her free time, Dr. Maria enjoys connecting with nature through traveling, camping, cycling, swimming, scuba diving, and enjoys playing the piano.
